【摘要】:ThisindextestmethodindicatesaunvegetatedRECPx2019;sabilitytoreducerainsplash-inducederosionunderbench-scaleconditions.ThistestmethodmayalsoassistinidentifyingphysicalattributesofRECPsthatcontributetotheirerosion-controlperformance.Thistestmethodisbench-scaleandtherefore,appropriateasanindextestforinitialindicationofproductperformance,forgeneralcomparisonofunvegetatedRECPcapabilities,andforproductqualityassurance/conformancetesting.TheresultsofthistestarenotindicativeofanRECPx2019;sactualfieldperformance.Note28212;Thequalityoftheresultproducedbythisstandardisdependentonthecompetenceofthepersonnelperformingit,andthesuitabilityoftheequipmentandfacilitiesused.AgenciesthatmeetthecriteriaofPracticeD3740aregenerallyconsideredcapableofcompetentandobjectivetesting/sampling/inspections/etc.UsersofthisstandardarecautionedthatcompliancewithPracticeD3740doesnotitselfassurereliableresults.Reliableresultsdependonmanyfactors;PracticeD3740providesameansofevaluatingsomeofthosefactors.1.1Thisindextestmethodestablishestheguidelines,requirementsandproceduresforevaluatingtheabilityofunvegetatedrollederosioncontrolproducts(RECPs)toprotectsoilsfromsimulatedrainfall(rainsplash)andminimalrunoffinducederosion.ThecriticalelementofthisprotectionistheabilityoftheunvegetatedRECPtoabsorbtheimpactforceofraindrops,therebyreducingsoilparticlelooseningthroughx201C;splashx201D;mechanisms,andlimitingtheabilityofrunofftocarrytheloosenedsoilparticles.1.2Thisindextestmethodutilizesbench-scaletestingproceduresandisnotindicativeofunvegetatedRECPperformanceinconditionstypicallyfoundinthefield.Note18212;Thevaluesobtainedwiththisbenchscaleprocedureareforinitialperformanceindication,generalproductcomparisonandconformancepurposesonly.ThesevaluesshouldnotbeusedinestimatingRECPsoilprotectioninactualfieldusewithsuchcalculationsastheUniversalSoilLossEquation(USLE)orRevisedUniversalSoilLossEquation(RUSLE)withoutverificationfromqualified,large-scaletests.1.3Thisindextestisnotintendedtoreplacefull-scalesimulationorfieldtestinginacquisitionofperformancevaluesthatarerequiredinthedesignoferosioncontrolmeasuresutilizingunvegetatedRECPs.1.4ThevaluesstatedinSIunitsaretoberegardedasthestandard.Thevaluesgiveninparenthesesareforinformationonly.1.5AllobservedandcalculatedvaluesshallconformtotheguidelinesforsignificantdigitsandroundingestablishedinPracticeD6026,unlesssupersededbythisstandard.1.5.1Theproceduresusedtospecifyhowdataarecollected/recordedorcalculatedinthisstandardareregardedastheindustrystandard.Inaddition,theyarerepresentativeofthesignificantdigitsthatgenerallyshouldberetained.Theproceduresuseddonotconsidermaterialvariation,purposeforobtainingthedata,specialpurposestudies,oranyconsiderationsfortheuserx2019;sobjectives,anditiscommonpracticetoincreaseorreducesignificantdigitsofreporteddatatobecommensuratewiththeseconsiderations.Itisbeyondthescopeofthisindextestmethodtoconsidersignificantdigitsusedinanalyticalmethodsforengineeringdesign.
